GOMEP Nigeria Unveils 2025 GATI Report: Top 10 States Lead in Transparency
The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers (GOMEP) Nigeria has released its 2025 Governance Accountability and Transparency Index (GATI) report. The press conference in Abuja named Abia, Borno, Ekiti, Anambra, Kaduna, Osun, Delta, Kano, Enugu and Kogi as the top 10 performing states. GATI measures seven key areas of state governance: public access to information, budget transparency, audit and oversight, anti-corruption, government responsiveness, procurement transparency and media freedom. The index is built on surveys, document reviews, expert assessments, data analysis and weighted scoring. Notable year-on-year gains include Kano’s 52% jump into exceptional performance and Kogi’s 152% turnaround. Several states moved from strong to exceptional categories, reflecting renewed commitments to accountability. GOMEP officials say the annual index will spur healthy competition among states. Future editions will assess federal ministries and the National Assembly as part of a broader push for good governance in Nigeria.
