Why Solar Brands Need More Than Digital Ads to Win Nigerian Customers
Nigeria’s solar market is growing, but expensive energy systems are not impulse purchases. Households and businesses want relief from generator costs, blackouts and unreliable electricity. Before buying, they need clear answers on savings, system capacity, installation, warranty and support. For commercial buyers, the decision is even more financial. They want evidence of diesel savings, uptime and return on investment. For many customers, financing is equally important. Lease-to-own plans, pay-as-you-go options and credible financing partners can turn interest into an actual purchase. Digital adverts may create awareness, but WhatsApp consultations, trusted installers, reliable after-sales support and proof that the system works in Nigerian conditions are often what close the sale. New foreign brands must compete with established providers, informal suppliers and buyers who may have had poor experiences with low-quality products. Solar companies entering Nigeria should build the full customer journey, from education and cost comparisons to consultation, financing and installation. Should brands spend more on aggressive advertising, or first invest in local trust, financing and after-sales infrastructure?
