Murray-Bruce Counters Donald Duke’s Criticism of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway
Former senator Ben Murray-Bruce has challenged Donald Duke’s criticism of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, saying the former Cross River governor once praised the vision behind the proposed coastal route. Duke, the Peoples Redemption Party’s presidential candidate, had argued that Nigeria could not afford the project while the government was borrowing to fund infrastructure. He described the highway as financially unfeasible. Murray-Bruce agreed that the project is costly but said major infrastructure requires long-term investment. He said the Federal Government had committed funding and accused Duke of allowing his 2027 presidential ambition to shape his criticism. He also praised Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri’s positive assessment of the road and argued that projects of national importance should not be judged by cost alone.
