Dangote Refinery Now Supplies 92% of Nigeria’s Petrol as FG Halts Imports
Dangote Petroleum Refinery supplied about 92% of Nigeria’s petrol in February after the Federal Government paused import licences. Filling stations kept pump prices above ₦1,200 per litre despite a ₦100 gantry price cut. According to the NMDPRA, local refineries produced 36.5 million litres per day in February, while imports fell to just 3 million litres. This marks a sharp shift from previous months when imports met over half of national demand. Some industry players warn that Dangote’s growing share could risk monopolistic practices. Dangote says it now runs at full capacity of 650,000 barrels per day and will adjust prices in line with global oil market changes.
