AY Says Top Artistes Can Charge Up to ₦200 Million for Comedy Show Appearances
Comedian AY Makun says booking leading Nigerian artistes for comedy shows has become far more expensive, with some performers reportedly demanding up to ₦200 million for an appearance. He said comedy shows previously benefited from friendships and mutual support between comedians and musicians. However, many artistes now have global audiences, streaming income, endorsements and international opportunities. AY noted that an artiste’s fee can sometimes exceed the cost of venue hire, production, security, publicity and other logistics. He urged audiences to attend comedy shows primarily for the comedy, rather than expecting several music stars on every lineup.
