Tinubu, Nigerians Cannot Keep Bearing the Cost of Political Waste
Mr President, the hardship facing Nigerians is unbearable. Removing the fuel subsidy, floating the naira and widening the tax base were major economic measures. They should have come with stronger safeguards and visible improvements in public services. Ordinary workers and families are carrying the burden while many politicians remain protected by huge salaries, allowances and luxury spending. A family earning ₦500,000 monthly can now be in survival mode, yet public funds are still spent on expensive vehicles, ceremonies and other questionable priorities. If Nigeria must tighten its belt, the political class should do so first. Cut the cost of governance, reduce excessive benefits, prosecute corruption and ensure subsidy savings improve electricity, roads, healthcare, security and public education. Nigerians should not pay more in taxes while receiving little protection or reliable services in return. The administration must review these policies with compassion and urgently address the waste and inequality worsening poverty and insecurity.
