IPOB Gives Federal Government 14 Days to List Nnamdi Kanu’s Appeal, Threatens 2027 Election Boycott

The Indigenous People of Biafra has given the Federal Government 14 days to list and hear Nnamdi Kanu’s appeal against his conviction. The group said it may call for a boycott of the 2027 elections across the South-East and other areas it describes as Biafraland if the appeal is not scheduled. IPOB’s Directorate of State said the Federal Government had yet to file a respondent’s brief or take steps to proceed with the appeal. Kanu’s family had earlier raised concerns over delays in the appeal process, saying he wrote to the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Court of Appeal leadership seeking an urgent hearing. The group also criticised the Supreme Court decision that overturned Kanu’s earlier discharge and acquittal. It argued that the court went beyond correcting the Court of Appeal and improperly restored charges that had been quashed.
