Abubakar Reveals Autopsy Found No Poison in Abiola’s Death

Abubakar Reveals Autopsy Found No Poison in Abiola’s Death

In his new memoir, former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar dismisses long-standing claims that Chief MKO Abiola was poisoned. He writes that an autopsy by American, British, Nigerian and Canadian pathologists found no signs of foul play. The report attributed Abiola’s death to hypertension and other cardiovascular complications he had battled since 1994. Abubakar also recounts how Abiola collapsed during a meeting with a US delegation led by Tom Pickering and Susan Rice. Medical staff concluded he suffered a fatal heart attack. According to the memoir, allowing the American team to visit Abiola in custody helped dispel theories of a cover-up surrounding his death.

It's interesting that pathologists from four countries agreed, yet many still doubt the completeness of the autopsy report.
