Report Says US Has Completed Withdrawal of Forces From Iraq
A report citing an Iraqi government official says the United States has withdrawn its remaining combat and logistical forces from Iraq ahead of a 30 September deadline. The US military has not yet publicly confirmed the reported departure. Washington and Baghdad agreed in 2024 on a phased withdrawal of about 2,500 US personnel. US forces had operated from locations including Erbil, Baghdad Airport and the Green Zone. Kurdish leaders have expressed concern that the departure could leave the Kurdistan region more exposed to attacks and without adequate air-defence support. The report also contains several allegations about the roles of foreign and Kurdish actors in past conflicts that are presented without independent verification.
