Court Remands Man Accused of Impersonating JAMB Registrar in Alleged Contract Scam
A Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded Arinze Nwogba at the Kuje Correctional Centre after he pleaded not guilty to six counts linked to an alleged scheme involving the impersonation of the JAMB registrar. Police alleged that Nwogba and other suspects still at large used the registrar’s name and photographs on WhatsApp and Truecaller to offer non-existent government contracts. The alleged scheme reportedly involved demands for ₦900,000 and a further ₦3 million, said to be payments connected to the proposed supply of laptops. The court heard that the investigation followed a petition over the unauthorised use of the registrar’s identity. Nwogba’s lawyer asked for bail, while the prosecution opposed the request, arguing that he could abscond. Justice Salim Ibrahim adjourned until October 7 to rule on the bail application and fixed October 19 for the trial to begin.
