Togo, Benin and Niger Owe Nigeria $11.16m for Electricity Supplied in 2025 — NERC
Togo, Benin and Niger owe Nigeria $11.16 million for electricity supplied in 2025 under bilateral arrangements, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has said. NERC said the Market Operator invoiced the three countries a total of $73.91 million during the year. Payments stood at $62.75 million, representing an 84.9 percent remittance rate. The customers are NIGELEC of Niger, SBEE of Benin and CEET of Togo. The commission also reported that domestic bilateral customers paid ₦12.75 trillion out of ₦13.20 trillion invoiced in 2025. However, Ajaokuta Steel Company and its host community made no payments, leaving outstanding bills of ₦4.96 billion to Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc and ₦500 million to the Market Operator. NERC warned that Ajaokuta could face disconnection over its debt. It also said Ibadan DisCo recorded the highest energy accounting efficiency at 88.84 percent, while Enugu DisCo had the lowest at 72.18 percent.
