Why I Disagree With Sam Amadi’s Criticism of Governor Mbah
I was surprised by Sam Amadi’s article criticising Governor Peter Mbah’s administration in Enugu. In my view, it relies on unverified claims, partisan framing and conclusions that are not adequately supported by evidence. I question the claim that political killings occur weekly in Enugu. Such an allegation should be backed by victims’ names, dates, locations and police records. I also believe the state’s security investments, including surveillance technology, patrol vehicles and a command centre, should be considered when assessing its record. I disagree with the suggestion that Enugu’s revenue growth is simply the result of excessive taxation. The figures cited by the writer indicate that much of the state’s internally generated revenue came from non-tax sources, asset recovery and improved revenue collection systems. Revenue mobilisation should not automatically be treated as tax pressure. Political violence and intimidation must be investigated wherever they occur. However, allegations should not be presented as proof of state sponsorship without credible evidence. Enugu residents are entitled to support or criticise Governor Mbah, Peter Obi or any political party without being labelled enemies of the Igbo cause.
