APC Defends Betta Edu’s 2027 Campaign Appointment as EFCC Probe Continues
The APC has defended the appointment of former Humanitarian Affairs Minister Betta Edu as Director of Women Mobilisation in President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign structure. Edu was suspended in January 2024 after allegations involving the handling of public funds. An EFCC investigation remains ongoing, but the party says she has not been found guilty of any offence. A campaign spokesperson argued that Edu should not be barred from party activities while the case is unresolved. The APC also said its campaign list is still under review and may be adjusted where necessary. The appointment has renewed debate over the inclusion of people facing allegations, as well as public officials, in the ruling party’s campaign structure.
