They are far less reliable when a project needs architectural decisions, deep business context, strong security or careful handling of edge cases. Generated code can look correct while missing validation, hiding errors or applying access controls wrongly. In my view, the key skill is no longer just writing code quickly. It is being able to review generated code, spot subtle mistakes and know when expert judgment is needed. AI can speed up routine work, but it still needs developers who understand what the code is doing.
