Edo Vigilante Operative Killed in Igbanke Kidnap Rescue
An Edo State Security Corps operative, Mr. Stanley Emeni, lost his life during a rescue mission on June 26 in Igbanke, Orhionmwon LGA. He and conventional security forces had responded to the abduction of a 60-year-old farmer by suspected kidnappers. The combined team of police, security corps members, hunters and community volunteers engaged the criminals in a gun duel. They rescued the victim unharmed, but Mr. Emeni sustained gunshot wounds and later died in hospital despite efforts to save him. The State Commissioner of Police led senior officers to condole with the bereaved family. He praised Emeni’s courage and vowed to strengthen community safety partnerships, improve intelligence sharing and implement new measures to protect personnel and volunteers.
