AU Extends Ethiopian New Year Greetings, Hails Ethiopia’s Role in African Unity

The African Union Commission has congratulated Ethiopia as the country marks its New Year, Enkutatash. AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf conveyed the message on September 11, 2026. He praised Ethiopia’s longstanding contribution to African unity, independence and cooperation. Ethiopia hosts the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa and remains central to the organisation’s continental activities. The commission wished Ethiopians peace, unity and prosperity in the new year, ending its message with the traditional greeting, “Melkam Addis Amet!”
