J’Dess Celebrates Igbo Heritage on Her Seven-Track EP, “ALA”
Singer-songwriter J’Dess has released “ALA”, a seven-track EP inspired by Ala, the Igbo goddess associated with the earth, life and motherhood. The project explores identity, love, personal growth, motherhood and self-discovery. J’Dess blends traditional Igbo folk melodies with highlife, soul and live percussion across the collection. She describes the EP as a journey through the experiences that ground people and shape their voices. The project features The Cavemen., Waje, Zoro, Selebobo, Chigurl and the Loud Urban Choir. Its sound places Eastern Nigerian folk influences at the centre of a contemporary soul-driven record.
