Shops Looted as German Youth Protests Turn Violent in Frankfurt
Youth-led protests across Germany turned violent on Saturday night after largely peaceful demonstrations over living costs, education, public spending and military policy. In Frankfurt, some protesters reportedly looted shops and attacked emergency personnel with fireworks, stones and petrol bombs. Police used water cannons and pepper spray, while a gun shop, a trainer store and a perfume shop were among businesses targeted. One officer was injured, and police said they recovered two weapons after an arrest. Clashes were also reported in Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin and Bonn. The GenZ regelt! movement said it rejects violence and extremist activity, estimating that about 120,000 people joined protests nationwide.
