Abia Probes Salary Stoppage as Driver Faces Alleged Nine-Month Absence

A controversy over the stoppage of an Abia civil servant’s salary has taken a new turn after claims that the affected government driver may have been absent from duty for more than nine months. The driver, who was posted to the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Due Process, is alleged to have resumed briefly before abandoning his duty post. The office reportedly contacted the Head of Service before the salary action was taken. Governor Alex Otti has ordered an investigation to establish whether the officer absconded from work and whether due process was followed before the salary was stopped.
