Man Survives Jump From Brooklyn Bridge After Police Standoff

A 44-year-old man survived after jumping from the Brooklyn Bridge into New York City’s East River on Sunday following a standoff with police. Police said he climbed the bridge’s north tower, removed his clothes and attached a Kazakhstan flag. NYPD emergency officers attempted to persuade him to come down, but he jumped while they were still speaking with him. The NYPD Harbor Unit rescued him from the water. He was taken to hospital for psychiatric evaluation, and police are reviewing whether any offences were committed.
