You Agreed ₦150k, Then the Client Added Five More Tasks: How to Stop Scope Creep
Many service businesses do not lose money because their original price was too low. They lose money because the job grows after the price has been agreed. A client may initially request a logo and three social-media designs, then add a flyer, extra versions, WhatsApp resizing and a banner. Each request may sound small, but several “small” additions can turn a profitable ₦150,000 job into unpaid extra work. Before work begins, clearly state what is included, what is excluded, the number of revision rounds, delivery timeline, deposit and the cost of additional requests. When a client asks for something outside the agreed scope, confirm the new cost and delivery date before starting it. Keep a simple record of approved changes, especially when a team is involved. A revision is not the same as a completely new task. Check your last five jobs: how many ended with the exact scope you originally priced?
