Hope, the Autistic Child: Lost After a Mother’s Rejection

Hope is an autistic child raised mainly by her loving grandmother, Chloe. Her mother, Clarissa, remains traumatised by the assault that led to her pregnancy and cruelly rejects Hope instead of seeking help. During a party, Clarissa publicly pushes Hope away after the child calls her “Mummy.” Hurt, frightened and overwhelmed, Hope runs from the house and becomes lost after boarding a bus to another town. Alone, hungry and confused, Hope wanders through unfamiliar streets. While fleeing from a bread seller, she runs into traffic and is knocked down by a car.
