Misplaced Mourning: Nigerians Weeping for Khamenei While Blood Flows at Home
I watched with disbelief as Shi’a groups in Lagos, Kano and other states rallied to mourn Ayatollah Khamenei’s reported death. They condemned foreign strikes by the US and Israel. A former minister even wept publicly during Friday prayers in Abuja. Meanwhile, back home, suicide bombers in Maiduguri killed 23 people during Ramadan. Herdsmen militias continue to massacre villagers in Benue and Plateau. Nearly four million Nigerians remain displaced in camps across the country. No one marched for our own dead. No former governor wept for the Woro village massacre. If you can shed tears for a foreign leader while ignoring local tragedies, your grief rings hollow. Our priorities need a hard reset.
