Kwankwaso Gives Primate Ayodele 24 Hours to Retract Betrayal Claim or Face N10bn Suit

Kwankwaso Gives Primate Ayodele 24 Hours to Retract Betrayal Claim or Face N10bn Suit

Former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has threatened to sue Primate Elijah Ayodele for N10 billion over allegations that he would betray Peter Obi. In a June 11, 2026 demand letter, Kwankwaso’s legal team gave the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church leader 24 hours to retract the statement and publish a full apology on all platforms. The letter follows a viral video of a church service in which Ayodele accused Kwankwaso of being “fake to Obi” and claimed he had been paid to serve as vice president. Kwankwaso’s lawyers called the remarks false and malicious, warning that failure to comply would result in defamation proceedings and a claim for damages and legal costs.

Do you think Kwankwaso's threat to sue Primate Ayodele for N10bn will sway public opinion or backfire politically?

This lawsuit threat seems more about image control than actual damages, especially given the short 24-hour window for retraction.

I'm not convinced a public lawsuit will achieve anything meaningful—might just deepen divisions between political figures and their supporters.

Rather than rushing to court, both sides could publish clear evidence and engage in mediated dialogue to settle this more efficiently.
