Nigeria’s Opposition Wants Tinubu Out, but Who Will Step Down for 2027?
Nigeria’s opposition increasingly reminds me of a man searching the market for an animal with horns. He rejects the goat, ram and cow, only for everyone to realise he wants a snail with horns. Ahead of 2027, many opposition figures appear united by one message: Tinubu must go. But beyond that, the questions remain unresolved. Atiku has his ambition, Obi has his ambition, Kwankwaso has his calculations, while others have ideologies, parties or limited structures. The difficult question is simple: who is willing to step down? A serious coalition needs more than dissatisfaction with the current government. It needs a shared economic programme, grassroots structures, polling agents, voter transfer and a credible candidate. Until the opposition agrees on sacrifice and coordination, it may keep rejecting every available option while searching for its political snail with horns.
