Before the Next Election, What Proof Should Nigerians Demand From the Federal Government?
Before the next election, Nigerians should assess the Federal Government with evidence, not campaign slogans. Claims about reforms and achievements should be backed by records that citizens, journalists and civil society groups can independently verify. The key areas include the economy, security, jobs, education, healthcare, electricity, infrastructure, public spending, borrowing, tax reforms and anti-corruption efforts. Government should show what it promised, what it budgeted, what it spent, what it completed and how people’s lives have changed. Voters should ask practical questions: Have food costs and real wages improved? Are communities safer? Are projects operational? Are jobs sustainable? Can households access affordable healthcare and reliable power? Where targets were missed, officials should explain why and state what remains unfinished. The same standard should apply to opposition politicians. Nigerians deserve clear, measurable commitments and verifiable results from anyone seeking public office.
