Video Shows Cleric Carrying Pump-Action Gun With Congregation in Sokoto

A viral video reportedly shows an Islamic cleric carrying what appears to be a pump-action gun while walking with members of his congregation in Sokoto State. The cleric’s identity, the exact location and the circumstances of the recording have not been independently verified. The footage has nevertheless sparked concern over the growing fear caused by banditry and kidnappings in parts of the state. The video emerged after reported attacks on Dinawa, Munƙi and Gidan Dare communities in Wurno LGA, where at least five residents were said to have been killed and others abducted. The attackers reportedly stole valuables and rustled cattle during the raids.
