How Nyesom Wike Retains Major Influence in Rivers Politics

Apart from President Bola Tinubu, I believe few politicians currently wield as much influence as FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. His continued grip on Rivers politics remains striking. Despite Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s alignment with the APC, Wike, who remains associated with the PDP, is still widely seen as influential in the state’s political calculations and in the build-up to 2027. I am not endorsing Wike or dismissing allegations of unlawful political actions. I am simply pointing to the political reality: he has built a formidable structure in Rivers State, and dislodging it before 2027 will be difficult. Still, political power does not last forever. Structures rise and fall, and today’s dominant figures can lose relevance tomorrow.
