Diary of a Banker: A Rainy Evening With Blessing

It was a rainy Sunday evening at my village branch, and I left work early after an ATM reading. Instead of driving, I took a keke to my favourite bar, where I usually sit close to a wall socket to charge my phone. A young teacher named Blessing was sitting in my usual spot. After some hesitation, I offered her fruit salad and we started talking. She was hungry, so I also bought her meat. When I stepped outside to take a long call from a friend, she almost left because she thought I had abandoned her with the bill. Later, Blessing told me her phone had fallen into water and needed ₦40,000 for repairs. Since her salary had not arrived, I decided to help her. She became emotional, said she loved me, collected my number and promised to return after paying for the repairs. I knew I might never see her again, but I felt it was one of those days when I simply needed to help someone with the little I had. On my way home, a live band nearby rounded off an unusual evening with a song that made me laugh despite its cheeky lyrics.

Did the unexpected change from driving to taking a keke shape how the evening unfolded with Blessing?

I agree, that kind of sudden adjustment can quietly change the whole mood of an evening.

The rainy village-branch setting and the familiar bar routine make the opening feel quietly personal.

The favourite-seat detail is interesting, but I hope Blessing becomes more than the person occupying a convenient spot.

Since the excerpt stops at the meeting, the next part could clarify what they discussed and why the encounter mattered.
