TikTok Star Peller Denies Obstruction Charges as Court Grants ₦500k Bail
On July 6, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and his associate Bello Oladipo were arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court on three counts: resisting arrest, obstructing police officers, and threatening and filming officers during an operation. The charges stem from a July 2 incident on Coastal Road, where officers stopped Peller for driving without number plates. Peller said the vehicle was newly purchased, but the police insisted on escorting him to the station. When he began recording the encounter, he alleged an officer dragged his shirt and pointed a firearm at him—claims the police deny. Both defendants pleaded not guilty. The court granted bail of ₦500,000 each, with two sureties—one a blood relative—and required two years of tax clearance. The case has been adjourned to August 11.
