Eselu of Iselu Challenges Ogun Suspension in Court
Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, the Eselu of Iselu in Ogun State, has asked the Federal High Court in Abeokuta to overturn his suspension by Governor Dapo Abiodun and other state officials. He is seeking an injunction to stop the government from enforcing the suspension and removing him from the palace while the case is pending. Akinyemi’s lawyer argued that the traditional ruler was not given a fair hearing before the suspension. The ruler also says he was ordered to stop performing his duties and using royal titles and paraphernalia. The case was adjourned until November 11 for a ruling on the application. The Ogun State Government suspended Akinyemi on October 20 over alleged involvement in partisan political activities. It said the suspension was approved pending an investigation and was intended to protect the neutrality of traditional institutions.
