US and Iran Sign Preliminary Peace Deal to End War

US and Iran Sign Preliminary Peace Deal to End War

The US and Iranian presidents signed an initial peace deal at the G7 summit in France. It aims to end the conflict immediately. The agreement covers reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a $300bn reconstruction plan, and lifting all US sanctions for 60 days. The nuclear issue will be negotiated through an extendable 60-day period. President Trump defended the deal as a way to avert an economic catastrophe. He warned that the US would act if no final agreement emerges. Iranian leaders remain distrustful and say their “finger is on the trigger.” The war has driven up energy prices and disrupted oil flows through Hormuz. I feel this agreement vindicates Obama’s previous diplomacy. In my view, Netanyahu influenced Trump’s approach. With rising fuel costs in the US, Trump may be seeking a quick win before November elections. It looks like a deal with the devil to secure votes.

How realistic is this preliminary peace deal for immediate war end and $300bn reconstruction without addressing the nuclear issue fully?

The deal sounds big, but how can full reconstruction start if nuclear concerns still hang in the balance?

It's interesting that the deal lifts all US sanctions only for 60 days while promising massive reconstruction in the Strait of Hormuz region.

We should be cautious: past accords collapsed fast when sanctions returned, so this deal might face the same fate once the 60 days end.

Shipping companies reliant on the Strait of Hormuz should explore contingency routes now in case reconstruction or sanctions renew after 60 days.
