Osun Election: Allegations of Threats and Intimidation Raise Fresh Concerns
I am concerned by allegations that threats, intimidation and violence are being used ahead of the Osun governorship election. Politics should be about persuading voters with ideas, records and plans, not frightening them over their choices. Reports and videos circulating online allegedly show APC figures and supporters making threats against opposition members and voters. These claims should be properly investigated, and anyone found responsible should face the law, regardless of political affiliation. Security agencies must treat threats of political violence seriously. Nigerians should be free to vote without fear. Our elections should be decided by issues such as jobs, security, education, healthcare and infrastructure. My vote belongs to me. Persuade me, convince me and show me your record. Do not threaten me. Fear is not support, and intimidation is not democracy.
