PeacePro Urges Dual Citizens to Renounce Foreign Nationality Before Holding Nigerian Public Office
The Foundation for Peace Professionals has urged the National Assembly to amend the Constitution to require people seeking public office in Nigeria to renounce any other citizenship. Its executive director, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, argued that public officials who control national resources and make decisions on security, the economy and foreign policy should show exclusive allegiance to Nigeria. The group said dual citizenship does not automatically mean disloyalty. However, it called for a national debate on stricter citizenship rules for elected and appointed offices, while protecting the rights and contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora.
