Benue Government Denies Knowledge of Peter Obi’s Reported Visit to Yelewata

The Benue State Government says it was not aware of Peter Obi’s reported visit to Yelewata in Guma Local Government Area, where more than 200 people were recently killed in an attack. The governor’s spokesperson said neither Governor Hyacinth Alia nor state security authorities were briefed about the visit. He argued that a presidential candidate’s movement should be coordinated with security agencies to ensure adequate protection. The government also denied any claim that it deployed youths to block Obi’s convoy. It said the alleged incident raises questions about whether the visit took place and whether proper security arrangements were made.
