FG and CBN Sign MoU to Align Fiscal and Monetary Policies
The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalise coordination between fiscal and monetary authorities. The agreement creates a structure for regular consultations, information sharing and joint assessments on issues such as inflation, government borrowing, debt issuance, liquidity and exchange-rate stability. CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso said the framework would make policy communication more predictable and support the bank’s move towards inflation targeting. Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, said both institutions would retain their separate responsibilities while working to reduce conflicts between government spending and monetary measures. The arrangement is expected to help align economic decisions that affect prices, interest rates, public borrowing and overall economic stability.
