Nigeria, WFP Discuss Unified Response to Poverty, Food Insecurity and Humanitarian Needs
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction and the World Food Programme have discussed plans to strengthen Nigeria’s response to poverty, food insecurity and humanitarian crises. The ministry said its proposed One Humanitarian–One Poverty Response System would coordinate social protection, food assistance and poverty-reduction efforts. A policy memorandum is being prepared for Federal Executive Council consideration to support the framework’s long-term implementation. The WFP pledged technical support and urged Nigeria to build durable national systems rather than parallel interventions. Both sides also discussed logistics challenges in delivering food and nutrition support to vulnerable communities, as well as possible lessons from Pakistan’s social protection programme.
