Robert Jenrick Declines to Condemn ‘Nigerian Scammer’ Remark About Kemi Badenoch
Robert Jenrick has declined to describe as racist a social-media post in which former UKIP adviser Raheem Kassam called Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch a “Nigerian scammer.” Jenrick said Kassam was a journalist with no official role in Reform UK. He suggested the comment referred to a separate dispute over Badenoch’s past claim about being offered a Stanford University scholarship. Conservative chairman Kevin Hollinrake condemned Kassam’s remark as a racist slur and questioned his links to Nigel Farage and Reform UK. Kassam defended the post as a joke but repeated his criticism of Badenoch. The row follows recent allegations of racist, sexist and violent language by some Reform UK members and candidates, which the party says it is investigating.
