Makinde Rejects ‘Emi Lokan’ Politics, Calls for Inclusive 2027 Choice
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has criticised the idea of entitlement in Nigeria’s presidential succession, saying voters should freely choose the country’s next leader in 2027. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Akure, Ondo State, Makinde argued that Nigeria does not need “turn-by-turn nepotism.” He said the presidency should not be decided by regional claims or by the belief that it is any group’s turn. He cited the 1999 election as an example of how Nigerians across regions can shape the outcome of a presidential poll. Makinde said his Reset Nigeria agenda would focus on infrastructure, economic growth and opportunities for young people and women.
