Bandits Kill Sokoto ASP, Burn Two Patrol Vehicles in Kebbe

Assistant Superintendent of Police Bala Wakili has been killed during a gun battle between security operatives and suspected bandits in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The attackers reportedly raided Girkau and Zugu villages on Monday afternoon and rustled livestock. A joint team of police officers, soldiers and Sokoto Community Guard Corps members reportedly ambushed them as they left Zugu. The exchange of gunfire lasted for more than an hour. The attackers, said to be in large numbers, allegedly overpowered the security team, killed Wakili and burnt two patrol vehicles belonging to the police and the community guard corps. Police confirmed that the officer died in the line of duty. Additional personnel have been deployed, while security agencies say they are tracking the attackers and working to prevent further violence.
