Alia Says Benue Projects Will Earn Him Re-election as Ortom Seeks ₦1.2tn FAAC Account

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia says his administration’s projects, economic reforms and worker welfare programmes will speak for him ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Through his spokesperson, he urged opposition figures to stop political distractions and allow the government to focus on governing. The administration cited an agreement expected to attract a $5 billion investment, road projects, regular salary and gratuity payments, the Food Basket Bakery and improved public financial management. It also said the reforms had helped restore investor confidence and the state’s creditworthiness. Former Governor Samuel Ortom’s camp has, however, demanded an account of the about ₦1.2 trillion it says Benue State and its 23 local governments received through FAAC since 2023. Ortom’s media aide asked the government to identify projects funded with the allocations, while Alia’s spokesperson defended the governor’s record and criticised the previous administration.
