Benue Youths Block Peter Obi’s Planned Visit to Yelewata IDP Community

Obi said the visit was humanitarian and aimed at sympathising with bereaved families and displaced residents. The incident has sparked debate over whether political figures should visit IDP camps and crisis-hit communities as the 2027 election season draws nearer. While some residents fear that victims’ suffering could be turned into campaign material, Obi argued that leaders should be free to meet Nigerians and understand their concerns.
