NDLEA Raids Edo: 42 Arrested as Three Cannabis Farms Dismantled
The NDLEA’s Edo Command destroyed three cannabis plantations covering 1.67 hectares and arrested 42 suspected traffickers in June, seizing nearly 4.9 tonnes of illicit drugs. State Commander Dr Mitchell Ofoyeju presented the operational scorecard in Benin, revealing 4,169kg of cannabis was uprooted at Ikao Forest in Owan East and Ebora Camp in Esan South-East. Two suspects were arrested at the plantations with 169kg and 395kg of processed cannabis. Enforcement raids in Uromi forced traffickers to abandon consignments including 540 bottles of codeine syrup, over 11,000 tramadol capsules, 2,500 Swinol tablets and 100 ampoules of pentazocine. Ofoyeju added that 10 convictions were secured and six drug sensitisation programmes conducted. He urged the public to support intelligence-sharing as the command tackles emerging security threats linked to illicit drug abuse.
