Baba Alado: The Life, Influence and Controversies of Mushin Power Broker Azeez Faronbi
Alhaji Azeez Faronbi, widely known as Baba Alado, has died at 83. For decades, he was a powerful figure in Mushin and Isolo, with influence across grassroots politics, transport unions, markets and traditional institutions. Supporters remember him as a benefactor and dispute resolver who helped residents, traders and transport workers. He was an APC chieftain, a market leader, an NURTW figure and the Akinrogun of Isolo Kingdom. His public life was also marked by allegations connected to violent clashes and political disputes in Mushin. He consistently denied involvement in violence, including allegations arising from past street conflicts, the 2020 White Sand attack and the EndSARS period. Following his burial in Isheri-Osun, police and community leaders urged youths not to allow his death to trigger renewed violence or old rivalries in Mushin.
