Iran Warns Middle East Conflict Could Spread to Indian Ocean

Iran has warned that the conflict involving the United States and its allies could spread beyond the Middle East, with the Indian Ocean mentioned as a possible new theatre. Yahya Rahim Safavi, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, said the fighting had already expanded from the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea. He said further military action could push the conflict towards the Indian Ocean and beyond. The warning comes amid tensions around major shipping routes, including the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Strait of Hormuz. These waterways are vital to global oil, gas and trade flows. Iran and the United States are also holding talks aimed at ending the conflict, with Tehran demanding sanctions relief and the release of frozen assets.
