Nigeria Denies Supporting Failed Coup Attempt in Niger
The Federal Government has denied claims that Nigeria or ECOWAS supported the recent failed coup attempt in Niger Republic. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye, described the claims as false and misleading. He said Nigeria does not support military coups or any unconstitutional change of government. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to democracy, constitutional order and stability in Niger, the Sahel and West Africa. The government urged Nigerians to disregard online videos and narratives intended to cause division and confusion. Nigeria said it will continue working with ECOWAS, the African Union and other international partners to uphold the rule of law and promote peace in the region.
