Seeking the History of Idembia Salt Pond and Iron Furnace in Ezza South
I am from Ezza South in Ebonyi State, and I would like to learn more about Idembia, a historic place in my community. Near the Ebonyi River is a salt pond known locally as Nnu Eye. Our elders say “Nnu bu ndụ,” meaning salt is life. For generations, women in our families have protected and managed this salt source. There is also an old iron furnace nearby, with dark soil that appears to reflect years of iron work. A small shrine once held an Ofo staff and a yam crown called Eza, but elders say these items were taken away during the colonial period. I hope to build a small Ofo house near the river as a cultural memory site, using replicas of what was lost. I would appreciate any history, oral traditions or knowledge about Idembia, the salt pond or the old iron-working site.
