Adamawa Court Sentences Three Men to Death Over Kidnapping of Catholic Priests
An Adamawa State High Court has sentenced Taledo Demiel, Namomai Medan and Mikaila Yusuf to death after convicting them of offences linked to the kidnapping of two Catholic priests. Justice Christopher Mapeo delivered the judgment on October 22, 2026. The offences included conspiracy, armed robbery, harbouring kidnapped persons and negotiating for ransom. The case concerns the February 2025 abduction of Reverend Fathers Matthew Dutsemi of Yola Diocese and Abraham Sauman of Jalingo Diocese. Demiel, who was identified as a church member, was arrested after the priests were rescued from a criminal hideout. The ruling is among several recent convictions in cases involving kidnapping, terrorism and violent crime across Nigeria.
