Kebbi APC Crisis: Why Governor Idris Replaced Deputy Tafida on 2027 Ticket

Kebbi APC Crisis: Why Governor Idris Replaced Deputy Tafida on 2027 Ticket

Political tension is growing in Kebbi State after Governor Nasir Idris named former Finance Commissioner Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, replacing Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar-Tafida. APC National Organising Secretary Suleiman Muhammad Argungu said the decision followed legal advice linked to issues raised during the 2023 governorship election petition. Although the courts upheld Idris’ election, the party has not stated the exact legal reason Tafida cannot remain on the 2027 ticket. Tafida’s aide said the deputy governor was not consulted before the announcement. Tafida has rejected claims that the Supreme Court case led to his replacement, describing the explanation as false and damaging to his reputation. He said he accepts the political decision and urged supporters to remain calm. Tafida remains Kebbi State’s deputy governor; the dispute concerns only the APC’s proposed 2027 ticket.
