Chimmy&Co’s ‘Still Illusions’ Reimagines Childhood Memories Through Denim
Chimmy&Co’s latest collection, “Still Illusions”, turns denim into a reflection on childhood, identity and self-expression. Creative director Chimmuanya Ijezie draws inspiration from Jean Carnival Day and memories of his mother altering his jeans to help him stand out at school. Across 11 looks, the collection explores patchwork, distressed finishes, contrasting washes, sharp tailoring and fluid outerwear. Standout pieces include a reconstructed denim trench, an electric-blue set, a fencing-inspired jacket and a floor-length indigo cape. As I looked through the collection, its strongest quality was the personal story behind the clothes. However, some silhouettes and denim treatments feel familiar, and a deeper use of Nigerian craftsmanship or traditional references could have made the nostalgia more visually distinct.
